Social Media. I usually get a lot of similar questions relating to what social media marketing is. So I’ve put together a FAQ for ya’ll. Hope this helps answer some questions that you may have. 🙂
What does a social media marketing strategy for small business involve?
A social media marketing strategy essentially involves creating an online presence for your business so that you can be found, seen and heard online. It’s about establishing your business brand and personality online to position you as the leader and annihilate your competition.
Okay, that sounds like where I want my business to go, but can I afford this?
Yes you can! Long gone are the days where only large companies could afford to be seen and heard in the market. The main tools that you need to have a social media presence are Facebook, Youtube, WordPress and Twitter. All of which are free. With these tools and the right plan you can create a presence so strong you will become unstoppable.
So, how does Social media marketing compare to traditional marketing channels?
Besides from the obvious cost difference, traditional marketing is based on interruption marketing – where businesses get customers attention by screaming and shouting on television and radio at the mercy of the media networks. Social media marketing is based on permission marketing where you entice the customer to follow you on their will, in the exchange for valuable information and content. It’s more targeted and effective and puts you in control.
Does social media marketing work for only service-based businesses?
Social media marketing can work for all kinds of business models. As long as you are offering something where you can provide expertise and value. I’ve seen Café’s, hairdressers, personal trainers and even dog walkers really achieve success through social media marketing.
How will I have time to manage my social media marketing strategy? Doesn’t it consume a lot of time?
Whilst the social media sites – Facebook and Youtube etc are designed to suck you in to waste time, managing you social media marketing can be easy. There are ways to pre-create your articles, videos and messages and automatically preschedule their publish date. So you can create it, and forget about it so you can get on with running your business.
